TO SoftSeat® CUSHIONS
The
Conventional Cushion
vs. the Oregon Aero® SoftSeat®
Cushion
When
you sit on a conventional cushion, you sink into the
cushion. This is true whether
it's a portable or built-in cushion.
In a conventional cushion, your
upper body rolls forward into a position that eventually
becomes uncomfortable because your pelvis is rotated back,
down and around the sits bones. The Oregon Aero® Portable
Universal SoftSeat® Cushion conforms
to you because the material is temperature and pressure
sensitive and
spreads
the weight load. The SoftSeat® Cushion
also spreads the weight load on the underlying original
seat cushion.
And finally, the SoftSeat® Cushion
repositions your upper body by shifting the pelvis and
hips into the proper,
pain-free sitting position. Shoulders shift back, the upper
body rises into a more upright position, a smooth lumbar
curve is created.
What does this mean? 1) You
will not sink into the SoftSeat® Cushion! 2) You will
be raised the height of the SoftSeat® Cushion Base
you select. In some cases, you may be raised slightly higher,
depending on your usual posture, the firmness of the original
cushion and the underlying seat structure.

The Universal SoftSeat® Cushion material conforms to you
because the material is temperature and pressure sensitive.
You will not sink into the SoftSeat® Cushion.
The SoftSeat® Cushion also spreads the load effectively
on the original seat cushion still underneath, preventing the
original seat from compressing as much as it did without the
SoftSeat® Cushion.
The Universal SoftSeat® Cushion design repositions
your upper body by shifting the pelvis into the proper sitting
position. Shoulders shift back, the upper body rises into a
more upright position, a smooth lumbar curve is created.
The result? Total comfort. |

"I am a flight instructor who is only 5'0" tall and I use a combination
of the 2" SoftSeat® cushion and 2" cushion back
for most airplanes. There are some, like the Diamond Twin Star, in which I really
only need the 1" cushion. So I’m adding to my collection. Thanks for
making flying from the back seat of the Citabrias possible!" -- T.R.
"As a pilot
with a bad back, I recently purchased your SoftSeat® Portable
Cushion with the lumbar support. However, before getting the opportunity
to test it in the plane, I set out on a 4,500 mile road trip to Alaska.
This was a trip I would never have considered, but as a former customer,
I had absolute faith in your company and its products. That faith proved
to be well founded. I made the entire trip without any back discomfort
(including using the cushion on a commercial flight home to Kansas
City). As a bonus, I did not have the normal discomfort of sitting,
even on 24 hour days in the car. I was able to go longer periods between "stretch" breaks
without discomfort. Thanks for another great product." M.W.
"My fiancé has difficulty because she is 5' tall and needs a booster
seat to see out of her Piper Dakota windshield. She also experienced frequent
headaches from (her) headsets. We purchased a seat cushion and lumbar support
and complete headset kit....You can add another couple of very satisfied customers
to your growing list."
B.H., private pilot
"I
received the 1" seat cushion
exactly one hour prior to my
departure. Thanks for the great service. I put 20-hours on my C-150
flying from Ft. Lauderdale to the Nashville, TN area. Did 6-hours in
one day. Your seat is exactly as advertised." K.S.

The
photos show Bill Lear, Jr. in his P-38 Lightning in
1947 and today with his Universal SoftSeat® Cushion
(oh, yes, AND the Learjet S/N 012 in which he obtained
his FAA type rating!). Bill was the youngest-ever P-38
pilot.
Says Bill, who suffers from back injuries sustained in
a 1949 P-51 mid-air collision, "The chair (cushion) and lumbar support are
a great aid in relieving my pain when sitting or driving in my car. You guys
have done an incredible job and have my everlasting thanks."
The son of the Learjet founder, Bill had his own fascinating
aviation career and has published an autobiography, Fly Fast, Sin Boldly:
Flying, Spying and Surviving, available at major booksellers. |

More
Aerobatic and Commercial Pilots
Using Pilot SoftSeat® Cushion
Cut-Out Cushion Accommodates Harness Systems
We
are always glad to hear from aerobatic and commercial pilots
that the Oregon Aero® Portable Universal Pilot SoftSeat® Cushion
works well for them. Here is a sample of their comments:
"The
Extra is a wonderful little airplane, but when I or my ferry
pilot is flying it cross country we’re stuck in there for
hours at a time unable to move! We’re strapped in with
a five point harness system, and we have to have everything out
and ready — charts, chapstick and ball cap — before
taking off or else it’s too late. Oh, and there’s
that parachute we have to wear as well. We are basically molded
to the seat.
"I can assure you that the only thing that keeps us comfortable and free
of pain on the long hauls is our (Oregon Aero) Pilot SoftSeat. It molds to our
butts and actually makes the whole cross country experience pleasant.
"So, think of us when we’re traversing the skies — we’ve
got on our parachute, our 5 point harness, our feet are literally strapped in
to the rudder pedals, our headset is tightly fitted to our head, and the only
thing we can really move is our arms and hands (all the better to tune the stereo
in cruise) — and the only reason we’re really comfortable is because
of your SoftSeat. Thanks!!"
— Patty Wagstaff and Crew
"I’ve
relied on Oregon Aero for years for safety, comfort and performance.
I’ve got a one-of-a-kind bi-plane, the Talon Eagle. When
I get into extreme aerobatics, the Pilot SoftSeat® doesn’t
compress with Gs. Having the seat height remain consistent is
really important—you need the same line of sight for every
maneuver and landing. ‘Flying by the seat of your pants’ isn’t
a cliché; it’s true. Every sensory input you get,
whether it’s the seat of your pants, your inner ear, or
what you see, it’s all input. When the input from your
seat is stable, it adds consistency and control to your performance."
— Dan McClung, Red Eagle Airshow Team and Airline
Pilot
"I
have been using the Oregon Aero softseat for 3 years now and
I love it. I have two cushions that I use. One is for my home
office and automobile and the other is for airplanes. I fly a
Boeing 767 on international trips of 8 to 11 hours. That is a
long time to sit in a seat! The Oregon Aero soft seat cushion
gives me the lumbar support I need and makes the long ride comfortable.
Also, the cushion is cut to fit a cockpit seat--it is a perfect
match! My other cushion does the same for me when I am sitting
at the computer or driving my car. I don't have back problems
and pains since I started using the Oregon Aero products."
— Tim Hahn, Commercial Airline Pilot
